Different Sensors
used in Mobile Phones | Their Use |
Explained
1.) Accelerometer:-
It tells your mobiles software that how you are
holding your phone (Eg. Horizontally or vertically) or how it is placed.
·
For example the option of “auto rotate” in your phone
that you can enable in phones setting. When you are viewing photos or browsing
on internet then if you hold your phone in vertical position then the screen
turns into vertical mode and if you hold your phone in horizontal position then
it turns into landscape mode.
·
For example in
some phones when you receive a call and if you putt your phones screen
downwards then your phone goes into silent mode or power saving mode.
All these works are done with the help of accelerometer
sensor.
2.) Gyroscope or Gyro Sensor:-
A gyroscope is a type of accelerometer but it is a
very advance accelerometer. With the help of Gyroscope your phones software get
very minute information like at which angle, at which degree you have holed
your phone or how much bowed or raised your phone is. It is used in various
software like
·
While making 360° photo, when you click various photos at
different angles then your camera knows the angle of every photo and with that
information software joins them according to their angles and makes a 360°
photo.
·
Gyroscope
is used in various games, those games contain gyroscopic control for example
when you tilt your phone in different directions it performs different tasks.
·
You
can use gyro-sensor for viewing 360° videos.
3.) Magnetometer:-
It acts as a compass in your phone; if your phone does
not have magnetometer then you can’t view directions (north, south, east, and
west) in google maps or any other app.
·
It helps to find directions, it acts as a compass.
·
It can act as a metal detector because it is a magnet.
When you bring metal object near your phone then the output rating changes and
any app is able to predict any metal near your phone.
4.) Proximity Sensor:-
You can see proximity sensor at outer side of your
phone, it can be found near front camera or near earpiece. It detects the
distance between you and your phone. When you are taking a call then your
phones screen get off; it saves battery and it prevent the touch with your
face, so any mislead can’t happen.
It works by sending an infrared light and found any
object on the basis of the amount of infrared light received.
5.) Light Sensor:-
It could be found near the proximity sensor. It is
used to adjust the screen brightness automatically. Light sensor gives output
to your phones software by detecting the amount of light in the surrounding
environment and then the phones software adjust the brightness according to the
output given by the light sensor.
·
If you are in a dark room then it will decrease the
screen brightness and if you are outside in a bright area then it will increase
the phones brightness.
6.) Barometer:-
It is found in some phones. Barometer measures the
atmospheric pressure. With the help of this sensor you can get your height from
the sea level.
·
It helps in GPS, If you phone have GPS then it makes
your location more accurate.
·
It helps in some health related apps like how much height
you have ascended.
7.)Finger Print Sensor:-
Basically it is used for security purpose, It enables you
to lock-unlock your phone using your finger print.
8.) Thermometer:-
Some phones have thermometer sensor, all phones have
internal thermometer sensor which measures temperature of battery, processor,
etc. But some phones have external thermometer sensor with that you can note
external temperature.
9.) Air Humidity Sensor:-
It measures the amount of humidity in your
surroundings. It can predict humidity conditions favorable or unfavorable for
you where the phone is present.
10.)
Pedometer:-
Pedometer is an advanced version of Accelerometer. It
tells about the number of number of steps that you have walked.
There are some other mobile Phone Sensors like Air
Humidity Sensor, Radiation Sensor, etc. but these sensors come in very limited
smartphones.
Sensors
are very useful and necessary components of mobile phones due to their capacity
of performing a variety of tasks.
